111 Program of Soft Machines and Flexible Electronics

This Innovative Talents Recruitment Base invites 11 world-famous international scholars in Soft Machines and Flexible Electronics, as well as 10 domestic scholars. Among the international scholars, two are members of National Academy of Engineering of USA and Foreign members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one is member of European Academy of Sciences. The 10 domestic scholars include one Yangtze river scholars Distinguished Professor, three winners of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, three winners of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, two scholars of the National “One-Thousand-Young-Talents” Program. Domestic scholars are mainly from the Key Laboratory of Soft Machines and Smart Devices of Zhejiang Province, Soft Matter Research Center and Flexible Electronics Science and Technology Alliance of Zhejiang University.

The primary research fields of this base are soft machines and stretchable electronics, focusing on the three directions: mechanics of soft active materials and interfaces, design of soft actuators, and design and mechanics of flexible electronics. Through this program, we aim to pave the mechanics foundation to develop stretchable electronics and will carry out the following mechanics projects associated with stretchable electronics: (1) multi-field coupling mechanics of stretchable electronics; (2) mechanics of high efficient transfer printing for heterogeneous hard/soft material integration; (3) nonlinear dynamics of stretchable electronics; (4) reliability evaluation of stretchable electronics.

The Base will encourage the cooperation between oversea world-class experts and domestic scholars, develop high-level research collaboration and academic exchange, deliver research results with significant international influence.

Overseas Partnership Project of First-Class Disciplines

Funded by the overseas partnership project of ZJU, SAA has partnered with Harvard University, Brown University and Northwestern University for developing and collaborating on the first-class discipline Engineering Mechanics. They are internationally recognized as the three strongest universities in Engineering Mechanics, and are currently three major mechanical research centers in the world, which has enjoyed a high reputation.

Partners have carried out frequent and diverse exchange activities such as teachers’ academic exchanges, students’ study exchanges and scientific research cooperation. Research collaborations in soft material mechanics, biomechanics and flexible electronic mechanics have yielded fruitful results. Partners have signed joint educational programs and many doctoral students have been to overseas partnership schools for further study and research. International conferences are held under this program including world’s top conference in the field of mechanics like“IUTAM Symposium on Mechanics of Stretchable Electronics”.

This program is further promoted in 2015 in order to further strengthen exchanges and collaborations between partners. This project aims to improve the construction of teachers, the internationalization of student education, and the promotion of international academic influence of Zhejiang University.

Strategic Partnership Project with World's Top Universities

Relying on ZJU's Strategic Partnership Project with World's Top Universities, the Department of Mechanics further promote research cooperation with Harvard University in fields of soft and flexible machine, flexible electronics, metamaterials, etc. To strengthen joint educational program of doctoral and postdoctoralstudents in the above fields, and to enhance influence of mechanics discipline of ZJU at home and abroad by jointly holding international top seminars at ZJU. In recent years, a number of doctoral students have gone to Harvard University for joint education, and achieved a number of landmark scientific cooperation results, which jointly published in the well-known international journals such as Nature, JMPS, etc.

Strategic Partnership Project with Moscow Aviation Institute

Zhejiang University, Moscow Aviation Institute and Zhejiang Haika Feihong Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. have reached an agreement on strategic partnership in September 2018. The main directions of cooperation and joint activities are as follows:

Joint research and development in the field of aircraft design and manufacturing, including spacecraft, aircraft parts and accessories and corresponding equipments; Training of specialists of the demanded directions and professional skills; Development of educational programs and systematic educational materials according to the needs of the cooperative enterprises, and carry out training and continuing education of professionals, including qualified professional and technical staffs; Arrangement of joint conferences, seminars, exhibitions, competitions, etc.; Regular exchanges of visits and various experiences among the Parties; Creation of Joint Research and Development Center.
