The US Academy of Engineering released its list of newly elected academicians and foreign academicians on February 7, local time in Washington. Academician Yang Wei, director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and professor of Zhejiang University, was elected as a foreign academician of the American Academy of Engineering in recognition of his outstanding contributions in multi-scale simulation of mechanical failure and reliability, as well as leading engineering education and research. It is also another international academic honor for him, following the honorary doctorate of Aristotle University of Greece and Northwestern University of the United States in 2017, and the Koiter Award of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2017.
Founded in December 1964, the American Academy of Engineering is the highest academic institution in the field of engineering science in the United States and one of the most influential engineering institutes in the world. Being elected to the American Academy of Engineering is one of the highest academic honors for experts in the field of engineering.
