To respond to “Double First-Class” universities project, broaden students’ international perspectives, seize the opportunity of “The Belt and Road” strategy, and further promote global cooperation, in summer of 2018, SAA organized an overseas study of group of 5 students for summer study program in National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
NUS is a world top university especially renowned in engineering, life sciences and biomedical, social sciences and natural sciences. Together with other students from Southern University of Science and Technology, they paid visit to NUS. Professor Phan-Thien Nhan, CL Teo and Zeng Kaiyang expressed warm welcome and introduce overview of Department of Engineering Mechanics of NUS, as well as postgraduate courses, and hoped that students would come to the university in the future. In later days, they talked with many professors and visited Fluid Laboratory and the Optical Laboratory, visited NUS IT, learnt about the research progress of the latest project “high-performance computing cluster and intelligent robots”, visited library and participated together with NUS students in the lecture of Fluid Mechanics.
After the visit to NUS, they also paid a visit to NTU which is one of the world’s best engineering schools with a strong tradition in engineering and physics. Guided by alumni of ZJU, students visited around campus, library and university history museum, and appreciated school culture of “developing leadership talent in 21st century”. They also visited A*STAR and National Metrology Center of Singapore, learnt about basic knowledge of HPC as well as researchers’ daily works.
This summer visit to Singapore enables students to directly feel the culture of foreign universities, broadens their international perspectives. Besides of understanding scientific research methods and learning ways, students may also be inspired and enrich their own life experience.
