This symposium was co-organized by Cambridge University Press, Editorial Board members of the Journal of Fluid Mechanics and Zhejiang University. Editors of Cambridge University Press, Associate Editor-in-Chief of JFM and Professor of Johns Hopkins University Prof. Charles Meneveau, editorial board member of JFM and Professor of the University of Twente Prof. Detlef Lhose, Prof. Colm Caulfield from Cambridge University, Prof. Ke-Qing Xia from Southern University of Science and Technology attended this opening ceremony. More than 150 professors and scholars from leading universities around China participated this symposium. They were from Zhejiang University, Beijing University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tianjing University, Shanghai University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and so on.

Prof. Shao Xueming, executive vice dean of SAA made welcome speech to all scholars and introduced profound reputation of JFM in China. He expressed gratitude to JFM to choose Hangzhou as one of the co-organizers of the symposia. Kathleen Too from Cambridge University appreciated Zhejiang University for its considerate arrangement, and introduced developing history of JFM.
