On 27 Nov. 2018, at the 28th academician conference of the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries held in Trieste, Italy, Yang Wei, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Zhejiang University, was elected treasurer of the Academy.
The Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries was founded in Nov. 1983, based in Trieste. It is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit international scientific organization, dedicating to support and promote scientific research in developing countries. Currently, there are 1221 academicians, including 232 from the Chinese mainland.
Yang Wei, solid mechanics, professor at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Zhejiang University, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, foreign academician of American Academy of Engineering, president of Chinese Mechanics Society, former president of Zhejiang University, former director of National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. In recent years, he has awarded honorary doctor of Northwestern University and Koiter Award of American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
