A delegation of Zhejiang University was invited to attend the 120th anniversary of St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University and visited Moscow Aviation Institute from February 18th to 20th, 2019. The delegation was led by Chen Zichen, vice chairman of Zhejiang University Development Committee, and consisted of dean Shi Hongbin from ZJU Advanced Technology Research Institute, executive vice dean Shao Xueming and vice dean Jin Zhonghe from School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, vice director Xue Fei from ZJU Global Engagement Office.
At St. Petersburg, Chen Zichen held friendly talks with University’s president Andrei Rudskoi, and vice president Dmitry Arseniev. He expressed sincere congratulations on the 120th anniversary of St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, and presented Andrei Rudskoi with a gift. The two schools have established partnership since 2004. The two sides reviewed their cooperation and exchanges in these years and discussed prospects of future cooperation in the field of education and scientific research. The two sides agreed that the partnership between two schools are firm. Under the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia, as well as the basis of long-term friendly exchanges between two universities, the two sides will much strengthen cooperation, further develop joint education and promote cooperative research in fields of aerospace, etc. It is believed that the cooperation between the two universities will achieve more fruitful results. During the visit, the delegation held talks with representatives from School of Physics, Nanotechnology and Telecommunications of the university, and discussed cooperative research projects in the field of micro-nano satellites. Besides, they visited ZJU students who were participating in the winter cultural exchange program.
The delegation also visited the Moscow Aviation Institute and was warmly welcomed by Dmitriy Kozorez, vice president of MAI. The two sides discussed existing cooperation in detail, and reached a consensus on future cooperation, including to carry out joint master's programs in the field of Aircraft Engineering, Propulsion Engineering and Spacecraft Engineering, to set up a Sino-Russian joint laboratory in the field of aerospace, to promote mutual exchange between the two sides' teacher, and to carry out market research work on related aircraft in China and Russia. ZJU delegation visited MAI Flight Vehicle Design and Teaching Laboratory, Engine Laboratory and Flight Simulation Laboratory, and had in-depth talks with experts from relevant disciplines.
ZJU signed inter-school cooperation agreement with SPSPU in 2004 and a strategic cooperation agreement in 2015. Since 2006, ZJU has sent more than 300 students to participate in short-term cultural programs, summer programs and exchange programs. Professors from the two universities in chemical engineering, machinery, energy, materials, aerospace and other disciplines exchanged visits and cooperation often.
Moscow Aviation Institute was founded in 1930, and was named as Aerospace Science and Technology University in 1993. It is a professional aeronautical engineering university. The designers of the Russian Tupolev Design Bureau, the Mig Design Bureau and the Yakovlev Design Bureau were the first generation of professors of the school. Most of the achievements of Russia's aerospace research, as well as many famous academicians, scientists and astronauts are from this university. The cooperation between ZJU and MAI started from 2017. In 2018, ZJU sent a group of 20 students to participate in the summer school program in MAI. In Sep. 2018, the two universities signed cooperation agreement and set up a Sino-Russia Joint Research Center for Aviation Technology. In the same year, ZJU and MAI signed the agreement of 3+1 Joint Bachelor Program, and 7 ZJU students have been selected to join the program.
