On 26 Feb., Prof. Zeng Kaiyang from National University of Singapore (NUS), Ms. Zhang Qin from NUS (Suzhou) Research Institute (NUSRI), visited SAA on discussion of “3+1+1” Master Program. Vice dean Prof. Qu attended the meeting.
Prof. Zeng first introduced the Department of Mechanical Engineering in NUS and NUSRI briefly, and then recommended NUS “3+1+1” Master Program. “3+1+1”programme is a joint educational framework collaborated by NUSRI/NUS/Partner Universities, which allow B.Sc. students from Partner Universities to complete their final year of undergraduate studies by attending a bridging course at NUSRI and thereafter, to pursue their one-year M.Sc. Program at NUS. It includes four undergraduate years, the first three years of their respective B.Sc. majors at partner universities, the 4th year at NUSRI, the fifth year at NUS. Students who complete the course and meet the graduation requirements will receive a bachelor's degree and a master's degree respectively. The undergraduate diploma is issued by the domestic university; the master diploma is issued by NUS. At present, the first batch of 25 students joined this program have successfully graduated with excellent grades, and continue to pursue doctoral studies or work. Department of Mechanical Engineering in NUS started this program in 2018, and so far has established cooperation with Beijing Institute of Technology, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Northwestern Polytechnical University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chongqing University, Jilin University, Soochow University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, etc. Prof. Zeng indicated that this program well provides a transit year, so that students may prepare both in English ability and professional knowledge for studying abroad. This program provides a good chance for students who which to further their study in Singapore.
The two sides also discussed on student education and short-term visit between two schools.
NUS has established a good cooperative relationship with our school in student exchange, teacher interaction and other aspects. For three consecutive years, our students visited NUS in summer. In recent years, four undergraduates go to Singapore for further study. This meeting is an important opportunity to deepen cooperation between two schools.
