On March 1st, Professor Konstantinos Kontis, Dean for Global Engagement, Mechan Chair of Engineering of the University of Glasgow, visited our school. Professor Lu Zheming, Head of Aeronautics and Astronautics Department, and professor Cui Tao, Ma Zhipeng, Du Changping attended the meeting.
Both sides briefly introduced their history, organization, education and research, and discussed potential cooperation between two schools. Professor Kontis shared his experience of cooperation with other Chinese Universities, and proposed to establish a regular cooperation with SAA including double degree education program, exchange of teachers between two schools. During the meeting, two sides had reached a cooperation intention of research in Aeronautics and Astronautics. It’s the first time that University of Glasgow come to Zhejiang University. Professor Kontis said that they hope to reach a strategic cooperation intention with the government of Hangzhou. On this basis, they would like to cooperate with Zhejiang University in all aspects, to make full use of all resources they have.
After the meeting, professor Kontis visited the Institute of Flight Vehicle Design and Propulsion Technology, Institute of Fluid Engineering, and Micro-Satellite Research Center. He enthusiastically communicated with teachers and students in these institutes. The ice-breaking meeting further enhanced the understanding between two sides, deeply explored ways and methods of cooperation.
Established in 1451, the University of Glasgow is one of the ten oldest universities in the world. It is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. A large number of outstanding alumni who have made world-renowned contributions to the world were graduated from this university, including 7 Noble Prize winners, 2 British prime ministers and other leading elites in various fields. The University of Glasgow is the first to establish the subject of civil engineering and shipbuilding. Other disciplines such as aerospace engineering, maritime engineering and computer software engineering are among top of the world.
