ZJU Delegation Attend The Belt and Road Aerospace Innovation Alliance 2019 Winter Camp——Light of Egypt

The Belt and Road Aerospace Innovation Alliance (BRAIA) 2019 Winter Camp - Light of Egypt took place during the period of Jan 21-31, 2019. The Winter Camp was hosted by the Military Technical College (MTC), Egypt, one of the members of BRAIA. Over 100 participants from 15 BRAIA member universities attended this winter camp. As one of the standing members of the alliance, Zhejiang University sent 5 students to participate in this activity.

During the two weeks, participants took part in lectures on aerospace science and technology, learning space industry and educational techniques. Prof. Mahmoud H. M. Ahmed from Egyptian National Authority Remote Sensing and Space Science, Prof. Wang Zhaokui from Tsinghua University, Prof. Mamdouh Wans from Cairo University and Prof. Liu Yanfang from Harbin Institute of Technology gave lectures to students. Meanwhile, participants visited well-known Egyptian high-tech enterprises and competed in several contests including Water Rocket Launch, Optimum Design of Spacecraft Structure and Design of the Space Mission Using STK. Besides, participants experienced  the local culture and history by visiting Egyptian historic sites with all members’ horizon broadened.

This winter camp provided an opportunity for teachers from different universities to communicate and seek for potential cooperation. During interactions with other schools, students from Zhejiang University showed enthusiasm and positive attitude. They said that the winter camp not only improved technical knowledge and practical skills for them, but also equipped them with good opportunities to exchange ideas, share experiences and build friendship with friends from different universities home and abroad.

MTC is one of initial member units of BRAIA and one of 15 member units in Standing Council of BRAIA. It has been actively participating in various activities of BRAIA. The winter camp hosted by MTC was regarded as an important initiative taken by both BRAIA and MTC, aiming to play a more active role in promoting cooperation between China and Egypt, helping BRAIA to achieve more successful cooperation in the future, representing another achievement of implementing the Belt and Road initiative. The alliance currently has 51 university members from 14 countries. Zhejiang University, as the standing member of the alliance, has sent teachers and students to “Belt and Road” countries for scientific research cooperation and academic exchanges.
