On August 26, “Chinese Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics 2019” was open in Hangzhou International Expo Center. More than 4300 scholars from universities and research institutions gathered together, focusing on research frontier, discussing and sharing the latest findings, and promoting the comprehensive development of the discipline of mechanics.

Main Venue

At the opening ceremony, Yang Wei, president of the Conference and chairman of The Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM); Dong Guoxuan, executive deputy director of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of NSFC, and Yan Jianhua, president of the Organizing Committee and vice president of Zhejiang University, delivered speeches respectively. Academician Zheng Xiaojing, vice president of CSTAM presided the congress. Academician Shen Changyu, secretary of the State Intellectual Property Office, and more than 20 academicians in mechanics and related fields attended the meeting.

Yang Wei extended warm welcome to all experts and scholars participating the congress. He hopes to take this meeting as an exchange platform to lay a solid foundation for the development of mechanics, to bring vigor to the new generation of researchers, to jointly solve scientific and technological problems, to making contributions to strengthen our motherland.

Dong Guoxuan said that mechanics plays a fundamental and leading role in solving important scientific problems. In recent years, China has made remarkable achievements in the study of mechanics. NSFC is increasing its support for the study of mechanics. He hoped that researchers will make new and greater achievements in the frontier fields in the future.

Yan Jianhua said that the development of science is inseparable from the study of mechanics. Zhejiang University attaches great importance to the development of mechanics, and has made unique achievements. He hoped experts and scholars attending the meeting would play a leading role and jointly promote the development of mechanics in Zhejiang University.

Later in opening ceremony, experts and scholars at home and abroad, including Detlef Lohse, Du Shanyi, Fang Daining, Bao Weimin, Fen Xue, Guo Wanlin, Wang Jinjun, Qu Shaoxing, made invited keynote presentations.

Invited Keynote Presentations

The conference lasts for 3 days, being guided by CAST and NSFC, sponsored by CSTAM and Zhejiang University, and organized by School of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

The conference set 23 parallel sessions, 95 workshops, and accepted over 3600 papers. Presentations and posters involves many related fields, which reflect results and findings in recent years.

CCTAM is the largest, most comprehensive and influential event in the field of mechanics in China. It was founded in 2005 and held every two years. CCTAM has become a platform for researchers from different disciplines to exchange findings and ideas. The conference has been successfully held for 7 sessions, and was first held in Hangzhou.
