In November 2009, the Ministry of Education established the Joint Research Center for New Flight Vehicle based on Zhejiang University and associated with 20 more leading universities in China. In November 2012, the Key Foundation and Major Collaborative Innovation Center for New Flight Vehicle was established. The Third Institute of CASIC and related universities jointly signed the agreement on construction and development of the center. In April 2016, this collaborative innovation center was also officially approved by Zhejiang provincial government.
